Poetry

Most of my poetry has been written on an 'as needs' basis.  Whether it was because I couldn't find an appropriate poem for a funeral or, on occasions, a couple getting married who didn't want the normal type of poetry available.  You know what they say about necessity being the mother of invention?  Well that is how my poetry happens.  I'd like to think my poetry is meaningful but I guess I would be insulting 'real poets' by claiming to be one myself *laughs*.

There are a few here that you are welcome to use, modify if you need to, but I would just ask that you acknowledge the author (ooooops that's me isn't it????).  If you have changed more than a bit (ie two or more lines) then 'adapted from' would be appreciated.  Obviously there is no way I can know whether you do or not, but if you do - you will at least know you have made me happy :)

Don't Feel Sad

The time has come for me to leave,
I want you to not feel sad.
Although I go alone right now,
Good times with you I had.

Each one of you held a special place in my heart
And I take my memories with me as I go
Of the wonderful times we spent together
And how I loved you so.

My life to you may/not have seemed long enough
but I laughed and loved and cried.
I don’t want you to give up on living
Just because of the fact that I have died.

Grieve a while for me if grieve you must
Although within your hearts I stay.
Sometime soon I hope you again enjoy
The sunshine of a bright new day.

So when you miss me just think real hard
Of those good times that we had,
And remember most of all that I loved you
And would not want you to feel sad.

Just A Knock Around Bloke

Just a knock around bloke with a heart of gold
You kept us amused with the stories you told
You bent the rules occasionally
but nothing you did break
You’d learn from that lesson
before the next one you’d make

The importance of family, so quick to the fore
You weren’t always perfect,
of that they knew the score
But your love for them was endless
and forever will be
They just have to look at each other
to know what you could see.

Your friends they too were important,
of this we are assured
Because to you were like the family
that you so much adored.
Your laughter will echo
in the memories of every one you loved
And we know you will be reunited
with those friends and family up above.

Don’t think we will not miss you,
you’ve shown us how to live
We no longer take life for granted
and to others we will give
The gift of our memories
of that great bloke that we knew,
And to always give credit,
because that _______  belongs to you.

The Angels Came

The angels came and called my name
“It is time for you to come with us” they said,
I looked down at my body
so filled with pain upon my bed.

“But those that I leave will be so sad
The pain my death will cause will hurt them still”
“Do not be worried” they said
“They love you now and they always will.”

They are taking me with them to the heavens above
Where there is no pain – only love.
And as I leave this earthy plain,
I will take my  memories with me as I go.
To tell the angels of the love we shared
But as they have watched over me – the probably already know.

So now my time has come to go,
but I do not leave alone
The angels hold me softly in their wings
Telling me all the happiness my journey brings
I will now become an angel too
My given purpose?
To always watch over you.

A Tribute To A Teacher

I heard that a teacher had died
For a moment I just sat and cried
Wondering if she ever really knew
The sort of influence she had on you.

Such a gift she gave in the classroom,
So freely without hesitation
Wanting to empower those students
With endless inspiration.

How many of them told her
How much they really gained?
From being stuck inside the classroom at lunch time
Whilst outside it rained.

Her knowledge that she shared
Was vast and immense,
The greatest gift she gave though
Was a dose of common sense.

She probably never realized
the influence she had
On the lives of all her students
If they knew they would be sad.

So on behalf of all you taught
I thank you most sincerely
For a teacher who was good and kind
And who was loved so dearly

A Message For My Family

I look down on you the family that I love
From a heavenly place somewhere up above.
I see your tears, I feel them too
Although you may not be aware
That I am watching you.

You see I’ve never left you
You know I’m in your heart
And while I’m no longer on the earth
We’re never far apart.

So when you feel that breeze
Just go past your ear
Know it’s me telling you
That I am still quite near

Although you cannot hear me
I still want you to know
That my love for you has never changed
Even though I had to go

Just close your eyes and think of me
And I will you give you strength
To make you smile and laugh again
I would go to any length

I loved you then as I love you now
And I watch over you constantly
Because I am still your blessed child
I love you ………….and you love me.
